Change Analysis Reflection Week 4

I decided to add this to the blog that I created last semester, and the one that I am using for my Directed Field Study. First - it will be nice to have an artifact of my progress through this journey. Second - I don't think that I will be able to separate the learning in my two current classes. There are so many overlaps, so many theories that are related or connected. At the end of the semester, I don't believe that reading these reflections will make as much sense without the other posts that I'm creating.

I suppose that, functionally, what I will do is keep these entries private until they are due.

This week, we were focused on the idea of disruptive technologies. This is something that I know a little about, it's related to my PoP. However, I had so much on my plate that I really couldn't respond adequately in the discussion thread. I've got an entry written, but it will require cleaning up and citation, and that, as everyone knows, is the most time consuming part of writing.

The thrust of my thinking, though, is that VR is becoming more potentially disruptive due to 3 things:
1. New portability
2. Lower price
3. The pandemic and people trapped in their houses. It represents a way out.

Also, it was interesting to read the discussion of Futurists. I have always been one, I love the future and am enchanted by the novel. That this exists along with a passion for history is a puzzling dichotomy.

Futurism is inextricably bound to the art and discipline of fashion design. Fashion has always explored the tension between nostalgia for the past and a fascination with the future. Sometimes these are tinged with sadness and fear, respectively. But the drive to look in those directions is such an integral part of the process that there's whole careers dedicated to it: Forecasting comes to mind.

What I am learning so far: Change is hard and scary, but can be handled. The future is either better, worse or weirder. (Personally, I think we are in the wierder timeline).
